Administrative history

The President's Advisory Council was created in October 1974 for the purpose of assisting the President and his staff in areas of strategic planning and development. The members of the Council are appointed by the Board of Governors of TWU. The officers of the Council include the President of the University, the Chairman of the Board of Governors, the Vice President for University Advancement, the Vice President for Strategic Planning, and the President of the TWU Alumni Association. Meetings are held semi - annually however additional meetings are called if necessary. Originally this Council was a single body which met on the TWU campus; however in the mid 1980's it was regionalized to include Southern California, Northern California, B. C. Regional, Ontario (Toronto) Regional, and Ontario (Kitchener) Regional. It 1996 it was proposed that the President's Advisory Council return to a single body and meet annually.

According to an email from Glen Forrester, December 1, 2008: This was an external group of interested donors and friends of the President. He used this group to seek input and direction on a variety of issues and concerns. He had a number of regional committees which theoretically comprised the full President's Advisory Council. These groups kept the President in touch with donors and friends of the University in various regions of the US and Canada. The groups would often hold regional "events" to allow the President to market the University within the region. His use of these groups decreased in the late 1990's and essentially stopped by 2000. Certainly from 1993 onward, the groups did not operate in a formal way to the degree the description (above) suggests. I do think they did in the earlier years, but in latter years the groups were part of an events strategy for student recruiting and fundraising, rather than an advisory body.
