As a Members of Parliament, Robert Thompson and Guy Marcoux represented Canada on their visit to the Republic of China from January 4 to 12, 1963.
Scope and content
Object is a black and white woven textile portrait of Mao Zedong (Chairmen of the Communist Part of China, 1943-1976). The bottom of the textile says in Chinese script "China Hangzhou 'East Redness' [meaning the rising sun] made by silk of fabric factory. Measuring 270 by 400 cm."

Physical condition
Textile is stained, has small holes in the corner, and has a crease fold in the centre.

Mao Zedong, also known as Chairman Mao, was the founder of the People’s Republic of China, which he led as chair of the Chinese Communist Party from its establishment in 1949 to his death in 1976.
General note
Textile is based from Zhang Zhenshi, Chinese portrait painter, who was commissioned to design a portrait of Mao Zedong in honour of the first anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
