From 1963 to 1991, Robert Thompson visited China and Taiwan multiple times. It is possible he aquired this object during his time there, though it is unknown if he purchased this object or was given it as a gift.
Scope and content
Object is an ivory elephant. The elephant as pointed toes, as well as carved gouges across the front legs, under the head, and across the trunk and forehead. Its pupils are painted black.

Since 1989, there has been an international ivory trade ban. While we can celebrate the artistry of this object, it is important to acknowledge the animal abuse that comes with the harvestings of ivory is no longer acceptable or ethical.
General note
Images of the artifact/object was taken by a Fuji X-A1 digital camera on a white background. Three images were created the Photoshop file (source file), the preservation copy (TIFF) and the access copy (Jpeg). The image was manipulated using Adobe Photoshop to brighten the background, crop the image, and insert the identification number.

Physical description
The ankles of the elephant bear brown stains, as well as a black stain on the back of the elephant. There are also remnants of an orange adhesive on the bottom of the elephant's feet. The elephant's right tusk is broken, as well as its trunk.
