Jake Epp, Minister of Health, discusses extending ideas into the community. He then explores the definition of community and the impact of Trinity Western University students. He asks the students to look critically at society and evaluate it within their faith. He shares a personal anecdote about going to China. He discusses the journey to faith of a member of the communist party in China. President Snider thanks Mr. Epp for speaking. Audio 81b consists of the following recording: Title: Dr. Charles Malik – “Radio Discussion” - very poor quality Dr.Charles Malik, President of the United Nations General Assembly from 1958 to 1959, speaks on Gorbachev and Reagan peace talks to someone, possibly journalist Jack Webster, on a radio station. He also discusses nuclear war. There are two different audio streams recorded one on top of the other, making this recording almost impossible to decipher. At [10:45] there is some discussion of Canadian politics. Don Johnson, Liberal MP joins the discussion. They respond to some phone calls. There is some discussion of prison riots with Roger Caron. Audio 24a consists of the following recording: Title: Chuck Colson – “God Demands Our Obedience” Chuck Colson, a Christian leader, cultural commentator, and author who served as Special Counsel for President Richard Nixon from 1969 to 1973, speaks at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver during Trinity's Fall Banquet. He opens with a joke about being tape-recorded - referring to Watergate. He also tells several humorous anecdotes. He poses the question, “What can a fellow believe in now?” Colson discusses the breakdown of government and loss of trust in society. He discusses how modern society lives as if God is dead. Colson examines what it means to be a Christian in a religious sense and not merely a situational or cultural sense. The Church must stand on truth, on Scripture. Colson also examines the Trinity Western Statement of Purpose and the importance of the mission to create leaders who think as Christians constantly. He discusses how God has not used his triumphs, but the great defeat of his life - going to prison - to impact others. Colson argues that it is not what we do, but what God chooses to do through us, and our obedience to Him. He then examines what it means to love God. Finally, Colson calls out to the people not to simply sit smugly and be saved, but to go out and live as members of the Church of Christ in the middle of the decaying Kingdom of the world. Audio 84a consists of the following recording: Title: Dr. Paul Marshall, Staley Lecturer – “Pluralism and Liberalism” Dr. Marshall, political philosopher, professor, and author, continues his discussion of pluralism from the series that begins on Aud. 83a. He outlines the various ways, appropriate and inappropriate, of responding to pluralism. He argues that secularism is an inappropriate way to address public life. He defines and discusses liberalism at length. He discusses the importance of defining values through the Trinity Western University mission statement and community standards. He argues that liberalism detracts from the effectiveness of an institution such as a church, a university, or a marriage. The impact of various individuals, such as David Enarson, Carl Fosmark, Calvin B. Hanson, Leland Asa, Enoch Mattson, Vernon Strombeck, David Twiest, Robert Thompson, and Neil Snider is highlighted. Audio 249a consists of the following recording: Title: Trinity Western College Promotional Slide Show / Advertisement This presentation appears to have been intended for use as a public relations vehicle - to promote the school to prospective students and/or for use in fundraising activities. The narrator presents Trinity's history and vision, programs and developments. There is upbeat orchestral music beneath the narration throughout the recording. The narrative or script appears to be based on the content of Aud. 247a and Aud. 245a, though this appears to be an edited and somewhat abbreviated version of the presentation. Audible tones for slide cues have been removed.
Audio 111a consists of the following recording: Title: Rev. Keith Price – “Evangelical Fellowship of Canada” Reverend. Keith Price, of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC), iillustrates the importance of ‘numbering one’s days’ through sharing interesting personal stories. He asks those present to consider, “what does it mean to apply one’s heart to wisdom?” He discusses his personal journey to faith and discusses how to live a Christian life. He argues that we must value the days God has granted us by living them for his glory. Audio 175a consists of the following recording: Title: Dr. Neil Snider / Dr. Don Page – “Growth of Trinity Western University / The Changing World” Dr. Snider speaks on the development of Trinity Western University during his time as president. He introduces Dr. Don Page who discusses the changes in the world and the importance of the Christian community being attuned to those changes. Notes provided by BF, student assistant, 2010/2011 Archivist's notes, 2007: Development Event. Dr. Snider opens, announcing that "there will be a video in a few minutes that will tell you about Trinity Western." He comments on the interest in Pacific Rim countries - like Korea - regarding establishing some kind of affiliation with Trinity. He shares his own vision for Trinity, which includes academic excellence, the "student development approach" (that students learn as much outside the classroom setting as inside, so the whole environment is key), and accomplishing both of these from a biblical perspective. "We are here tonight to thank you for standing with us." Snider states that the motto for the current year, "truth unto godliness," is taken from Titus 1. He introduces the video. The recording is interrupted. Dr Snider introduces Dr. Page, here from Toronto, as the speaker. Page [later Academic Vice President for TWU] speaks regarding the need to prepare for a challenging future.
