The leather has been imprinted with three feathers each feather measuring 1.5 cm in length. The case has leather stitching where the amulet would be fastened to a chain for wearing around the neck. The kitabe was worn by an individual and contained religious texts, in particular texts written in Ge'ez, a liturgical language of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
