He explores the difficulty posed by spirituality and the new age movement. He discusses the profound failures of politics when Christian values are lost within the rule of law. He illustrates this point with personal stories. He then takes questions from the audience on a variety of topics, including Christians in the media, sexual orientation, violence in the media, and the importance of upholding the word of God. Audio 188a consists of the following recording: Title: John Redekop – “Graduation Ceremony” The recording begins with music and singing. Dr. Don Page, Vice President for Academic Affairs, presents Dr John Harold Redekop for an honorary doctorate , the degree of Doctor of Humanities. Dr. Redekop, historian, professor of political science at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, and also adjunct professor of political science at TWU, is invited to speak. He shares his views on Christianity, leadership and living for God. At [23:25] there is music and singing. Dr. Don Page awards the Governor General’s Gold Medal - the first to be presented at TWU - to Randy Peter Wolff, and the Governor General’s Silver Medal to Kari Byrt. Byrt, also the valedictorian, is introduced and invited to speak. Dr. Don Page begins to present the citizenship awards [Leanne Chase and Greg Ouellette], but is cut off in the middle of a sentence. Audio 45b consists of the following recording: Title: President Neil Snider – “Glorify God” and "The Mission of TWU" / Gerhard DuToit – (Faith Missions) "The Word of God" There is some singing at the beginning of the recording. A student, Mike Hamilton, shares the story of his father accepting the Lord. The students pray for the continued intervention of the Lord. President Snider speaks in regards to the constant change in the world. He states that the mission of the University is personal development in Jesus Christ and the end goal is service to the Lord. He reads and examines John 16:33-17:5. He argues that one’s overall purpose is to glorify God. He then leads the students in prayer. This section ends and a recording from another day begins. During Evangelism Week, Gerhard DuToit speaks to the importance of being accountable and available to God. He emphasizes that the Word of God should be precious to all Christians. He shares a compelling story about the murder of a Christian in Africa and the impact this person’s witness had on those who murdered him. DuToit relates the importance of preaching and relates a personal story of connecting to a stranger through the Word of God. He argues for continued witness to Jesus Christ and constant prayer. Audio 130a consists of the following recording: Title: President Snider – “Panel Discussion” Dr. Snider moderates a panel dscussion that includes Dr. Guy Saffold (TWU Administrator), Dr. Bob Burkinshaw (TWU Professor), Dr. Don Page (TWU Administrator), Mr. Melvin Smith (Lawyer and constitutional expert), and Carol Gran (Minister of Government Management Services and Minister Responsible for Women's Programs). Dr. Snider summarizes the position of each panel member. He thanks them for speaking and invites Carol Gran to speak. Gran focuses on the subservient role of women in Christian society. Drs. Burkinshaw and Page respond. The impact of constitutional law on various issues is discussed by Mel Smith as he answers various questions. Dr. Page answers questions and shares his faith journey. Audio 175a consists of the following recording: Title: Dr. Neil Snider / Dr. Don Page – “Growth of Trinity Western University / The Changing World” Dr. Snider speaks on the development of Trinity Western University during his time as president. He introduces Dr. Don Page who discusses the changes in the world and the importance of the Christian community being attuned to those changes. Dr. Snider opens, announcing that "there will be a video in a few minutes that will tell you about Trinity Western." He comments on the interest in Pacific Rim countries - like Korea - regarding establishing some kind of affiliation with Trinity. He shares his own vision for Trinity, which includes academic excellence, the "student development approach" (that students learn as much outside the classroom setting as inside, so the whole environment is key), and accomplishing both of these from a biblical perspective. "We are here tonight to thank you for standing with us." Snider states that the motto for the current year, "truth unto godliness," is taken from Titus 1. He introduces the video. Audio 214b consists of the following recording: Title: Unidentified soloists and narrators – “The Christmas Story” A female soloist accompanied by a variety of instruments, possibly synthesized, including harp, bells, and piano, performs a song ["I am waiting in a silent prayer"]. She begins to tell the Christmas Story. Midway through the recording, a male narrator recounts the Christmas story from Joseph's perspective [What did Joseph feel?] and a male soloist performs a song. The two singers perform a duet.
