The external hat is a brown leather, while the internal lining is an off-white fleece-like fabric, as well as green corduroy along the front internal lining. The internal fleece bears three black stamps, all of which are difficult to discern. The hat has three silver buckles: one under the chin and two on the back, which hold closed a slit in the leather. The hat also has two snaps to hold the goggles' band in place. The goggles are made of a darker leather, the sweatband comprised of brown corduroy. The photograph was originally kept in a plastic sleeve with the following text written on the sleeve "The first group of Graduating Pilots of the Ethiopian Air Force 1944. About 8 of these came to the Ethiopian Lines in 1945. Col. (Colonel) Robert Thompson - Officer Commanding." Both photographs are duplicates however they are reversed.
