Title: Dr. Karen Longman, Staley Lecture – “The Gift of Time”
Dr. Karen Longman served from ca. 1980 to ca. 2000 as Vice President for Professional Development and Research at the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities In 1995 she presented the Staley Lecture at TWU. She begins to speak on the importance of dedicating every second to the service of God. The recording ends suddenly at [8:40].

Title: Dr. Karen Longman, Staley Lecture – “God’s Power and Your Potential”
Dr. Longman discusses the importance of making a contribution to the kingdom of God on Earth. She encourages students to get out of their comfort zone and take action to change the world. She encourages them to take risks for God. She argues that people are too comfortable with God. She reads from Matthew 14. She encourages students to be as Peter, to take the risk for Jesus. Finally, she leads the group in prayer.

Title: Dave Walker – “Workplace Stress”
Dave Walker, representing the Christian Business and Professional Association (Vancouver), speaks about the changes in the world, including the changing workplace. He discusses the white-collar recession and asks the students to think about how they’re going to handle the pressures of time, performance expectations, and desire for material things. He suggests that an exciting, dynamic spiritual life is the remedy for workplace stress, and calls on three other CBPA members (Ellie Suderman, lawyer Warren Covell and Don Reddig (?)) to address the students.

Title: Chip MacGregor – “Christians and Social Issues”
MacGregor discusses the complex relationship between Christians and social issues. He illustrates this point by discussing the Vietnam War. He then focuses on abortion as a moral issue. He argues that abortion cheapens life and will cheapen life on all levels. He argues that Christians treat abortion as an intellectual issue and need to be active in making a difference. He then leads the group in prayer. [MacGregor served as Associate Vice President of Student Life at TWU in the early 1990s. He has also been a pastor, author, and literary agent.]

Title: Dr. Snider – “Reflections on God after the January Events in Lithuania”
Dr. Snider reflects on various difficulties facing the community. He mentions the winter weather, natural disasters and people (including Steve Larsen) coping with health struggles. He discusses the shock of hearing of the January Events in Lithuania, the assault on the Vilnius TV Tower, and the tension between Lithuania and the Soviet Union. He discusses the wickedness of the heart of man and argues for faith. He poses the question, “Where are we in this picture?” He recounts the early prayers of the community. He argues that a sovereign God is active in the world. He discusses the importance of having a mindset to act and make a difference. He argues that Christians have become too conformed to the world. He reads from 2 Corinthians 5 and argues for attempting to see things from God’s point of view. Finally, he leads the group in prayer.

Title: Dr. Jerry MacGregor – “Sex, sex and more sex”
This is part of a multi-day lecture series. Dr. MadGregor argues against being afraid to discuss sex, and for the importance of having open discussions about the topic. He acknowledges the difficulty of understanding that God made people sexual in addition to creating them to be holy. He discusses sex beyond procreation. He argues that it is difficult to reconcile Christian views on sex because of the secular mentality of sex as a selfish act. He argues against the influence of Satan in determining sexual activity. He illustrates this point with personal stories and retells the story of David and Bathsheba. He emphasizes the difference between sex and love. [MacGregor served as Associate Vice President of Student Life at TWU in the early 1990s. He has also been a pastor, author, and literary agent.]

Title: Loyal Makaroff – “My Journey”
A former aviation student discusses his Trinity Western experience, and means of integrating into the workforce. He discusses how to share one's faith with those who are of a different religion. He recounts his personal journey of faith following his graduation from TWU and talks about his mission work in Africa. He encourages students to believe in the transformative power of God. He argues that Jesus Christ can change lives. They close in song.

Christian Leader in Residence Inauguration: John Reimer - October 22 / Chuck Macknee (TWU Professor and member of Alumni) - October 23

Audio 88a consists of the following recording:
Title: John Reimer, Member of Parliament – “Christians in Parliament”
Dr. Don Page introduces John Reimer, an MP [1979 to 1980, and again from 1984 to 1993] from Kitchener Ontario, and inaugurates him as the first Christian Leader in Residence. Reimer speaks on whether being a Christian makes him different from his colleagues in Parliament, and on how his faith influences his life. He reads from the book “Twilight of a Great Civilization” by Carl Henry. He discusses some of the issues he’s faced as an MP, including abortion. He discusses the development of laws regarding abortion in Canada at length. He also discusses his views on homosexuality and the Human Rights Code. At the close of Reimer's presentation, President Snider presents him with an award.
Audio 88b consists of the following recording:
Title: Chuck Macknee – “Self Esteem”
Charles Macknee, Professor of Psychology at TWU, addresses a group - possibly during Chapel service. He mentions that he is filling in for Jamey McDonald, who was not able to be there. Macknee discusses the importance of self esteem and the struggle to differentiate the concept from self interest and selfishness. He explores the idea of how to maintain a positive sense of self and a relationship with God. He argues that one must first take care of oneself in order to serve God. He defines self-esteem as the willingness to give up being the center of one’s world. One must give up the desire to be God’s equal. Finally, he argues that one must be accepting of oneself, loving in a charitable way of oneself, valuable to oneself, and willing to endorse oneself. Finally, he leads the group in prayer.

He focuses on the moral implications of the case and how it may affect Americans. He takes calls from listeners and discusses various "left wing prejudices." There are commercials throughout the recording.
