Ethiopian Handheld Coptic Cross

Object is an Ethiopian handheld Coptic Crosse made of brass with engraved x marks, half circles and dotted lines accentuating the cut out areas of the cross.

Framed Handheld Coptic Crosses

Object is framed piece showcasing five Ethiopian handheld Coptic Crosses made of brass in various sizes and designs. The coptic crosses are mounted on purple velvet-like material and framed in a yellowish-white marble faux wood with gold bevelled edge. The centre of the mounted piece features a large cross with two smaller crosses on either side. Description of crosses from left to right:

  • 1) Hand cross with lower tablet in the shape of a square with notched foliate design, central shaft, upper cross is elaborate carved latticework with incising to accentuate the cross with small circles and lines.
  • 2) Hand cross Hand cross with lower tablet in the shape of a square, rounded central shaft, upper cross has three pointed ends and a fine patina.
  • 3) Large hand cross with lower tablet in the shape of a square with notched plus sign and ovals in between the edges of the sign, thick central shaft, upper cross is elaborate carved latticework with incising to accentuate the crosss with small circle and lines.
  • 4) Hand cross with lower tablet in the shape of a square, rounded central shaft, upper cross form has incised circles on the three points of the cross with dots on the cross lines.
  • 5) Hand cross with lower tablet in the shape of a diamond that has been notched to form a cross design, rounded central shaft, upper cross features four crosses that interset.
