Dr. Blair Whitmarsh, sport psychologist and director of Human Kinetics at Trinity Western University, is interviewed by Kevin Sylvester on CBC Radio One about the impact of Vancouver winning the bid to host the 2010 Olympics at [1:27]. Others are interviewed and calls are taken.

Audio 287a consists of the following recording:
Title: “Robert Thompson Funeral”
The recording begins with organ music performed by David Rushton (Faculty member). The music continues until [12:45]. Pastor Jamey McDonald (note: name is sometimes misspelled Jamie MacDonald) of the Fort Langley Evangelical Free Church, welcomes those in attendance and discusses the impact Dr. Thompson had on Canada, the community, and those around him. At [16:37] President Neil Snider is invited to speak. At [20:18] a hymn is sung. At [25:05] the hymn concludes and Pastor McDonald continues the service. At [26:39] Dr. Don Page (Academic Vice President) is invited to give the eulogy. Dr. Page concludes at [41:48]. Howard Thompson, brother to Bob, is invited to speak, on behalf of the family. He is cut off in the middle of a sentence.
Audio 287b consists of the following recording:
Title: Title: “Robert Thompson Funeral”
This is a continuation of Aud. 287a. Aklilu Mulat speaks on behalf of the Ethiopian community. At [6:45] Dr. Arnell Motz, with SIM, speaks on Thompson’s work with the Social Credit Party and on his ministry in Ethiopia with SIM. He concludes at [19:55]. Jamey McDonald speaks again; he leads the group in prayer. An unidentified man [George Foster, according to the order of service] reads from Revelations 21, 22:1-5 &14, 7:9-17. At [27:07] there is organ music and a woman [Alice Warkentin] sings. The music continues until the end of the recording. Continued on Aud. 288a.

Title: Baruch Goldstein – “Jews for Jesus”
Baruch Goldstein, representing Jews for Jesus, speaks about the growth of his organization and the increasing popularity of Jesus Christ among the Jewish people. He relates a personal story about serving in the Vietnam War. He relates the story of his conversion to Christ. Goldstein impresses on his listeners the importance of ministering to Jewish individuals and how to overcome some of the common objections that are raised. See also Aud. 48b for another of his presentations.

Staley Lecture: Dr. Paul Marshall - November 17

Audio 84a consists of the following recording:
Title: Dr. Paul Marshall, Staley Lecturer – “Pluralism and Liberalism”
Dr. Marshall, political philosopher, professor, and author, continues his discussion of pluralism from the series that begins on Aud. 83a. He outlines the various ways, appropriate and inappropriate, of responding to pluralism. He argues that secularism is an inappropriate way to address public life. He defines and discusses liberalism at length. He discusses the importance of defining values through the Trinity Western University mission statement and community standards. He argues that liberalism detracts from the effectiveness of an institution such as a church, a university, or a marriage. He argues that there are other things that are valuable in the world, in addition to individual rights.

Oral History: Benno and Marge Friesen (Founding faculty / staff) - October 9

Audio 224a consists of the following recording:
Title: Benno Friesen and Marge Friesen – “Oral History Interview”
The interview was conducted in the University Archives on October 9, 2003 as part of a Directed Studies History 310 course. The interview begins with a discussion of how the Friesens first heard of the plans for Trinity Junior College and their interest in joining the staff. They provide a brief description of how the campus looked when they first arrived, and then talk about some of the challenges that arose in preparing for the first students in 1962. The next portion of the interview focuses on the various jobs the Friesens held while at Trinity Junior College. They provide specific job titles and descriptions, as well as some insight into the more unusual activities that they participated in on campus, outside of their job descriptions. Mr. Friesen discusses his transition from English Professor to Dean of Students and Mrs. Friesen describes their involvement with the music program. The Friesens then discuss their relationships with the students. They explain what it was like living with their family in the men’s wing of the dorms.
Audio 224a consists of the following recording:
Title: Benno Friesen and Marge Friesen – “Oral History Interview”
This is a continuation of the interview on Aud. 224a. The Friesens continue to discuss what it was like living with their family in the men’s wing of the dorms. They also discuss how they interacted with students outside of the classroom. The last portion of the interview addresses what the Friesens think attracted students to Trinity Junior College and what they hoped students would take from their time at Trinity Junior College. Finally, they discuss how the Trinity Western University of today has lived up to the vision they had for it during its foundation. The interview concludes with some final comments on why they left Trinity Junior College, how they have been involved since their departure, and how the school impacted their lives. They also provide some final comments on things of importance to them that were not specifically asked in the interview. Graduation Service: Maxine Hancock (Commencement Speaker), Jeremy Klassen (Valedictorian) and others - April 28

Audio 189a consists of the following recording:
Title: Maxine Hancock – “Graduation Ceremony”
The audience is invited to sing “O Canada”. Heward Little, parent and Board member, is invited to lead the group in prayer. There is further music and singing. President Neil Snider greets those in attendance. Dr. Don Page, Vice President for Academic Affairs, presents Maxine Hancock for an honorary doctorate, the degree of Doctor of Humanities. Hancock, noted author and speaker, as well as guest lecturer at both ACTS and TWU, is invited to speak. There is further music and singing. Don Page thanks the faculty and discusses the departure of Dr. Elsie Holmes. He begins the presentation of the Governor General’s Gold Medal but is cut off in the middle of a sentence.
Audio 189b consists of the following recording:
Title: Speaker – “Graduation Ceremony circa 1994”
This is a continuation of Aud. 189a. Dr. Page presents Bill Hamilton with the Governor General’s Gold Medal Award. He then presents the Governor General’s Silver Medal to Martina Byl. Dr. Page acknowledges the value of these two individuals to the community. The Valedictorian, Jeremy Klassen, is invited to speak. Tom Bulick, Vice President for Student Affairs, presents the Citizenship Awards to Rachel Taylor and Phil Vanderveen. Those gathered are led in the singing of the hymn “Great is thy Faithfulness”. Degrees are awarded. A list of graduates' names is read until the end of the recording.

The recording begins with music and singing. President Neil Snider welcomes those present. Vernon Strombeck is recognized, along with other founders. Dr. Myron Augsburger, President of the Christian College Coalition, speaks at length. The group is led in song. Dr. Don Page, Vice President for Academic Affairs, invites Kim Hazelwood to speak as valedictorian. She is cut off in the middle of a sentence.

Title: Kim Hazelwood – “30th Graduation Convocation (1992)”
This is a continuation of Aud. 185a. Kim Hazelwood continues her Valedictorian Address. Dr. Don Page presents citizenship awards to David Hoffman and Kim Hazelwood. Dr. Snider presents honorary doctorate degrees to David Enarson (Founder) and Calvin Hanson (Founding President). Dr. Page reads out a list of graduates' names.
Audio 185c consists of the following recording:
Title: “30th Graduation Convocation (1992)”
This is a continuation of Aud.185b. Dr. Page continues to read a list of graduates' names. Dr. Ken Davis (TWU Administrator) presents the ACTS students for graduation. The group is led in prayer by a parent, Dr. Gary Inrig. There is music and singing until the end of the recording.
