The fonds consists of records that document the activities and functions of the University Communications Department, including correspondence, minutes, promotional materials, sample publications, reports and proposals, financial and personnel records, and records pertaining to special events sponsored by the University.
Series within the fonds include the following: Correspondence (F 04.01), Minutes (F 04.02), Financial Records - including those pertaining to Financial Aid (F 04.03), Marketing and Events - primarily drafts and samples, records pertaining to advertising, promotional items, and records documenting special events (F 04.04), Development - primarily fundraising initiatives (F 04.05), Personnel Records (F 04.06), Reports, Proposals, and General Presentations (F 04.07), Bills, Statutes, and Charters (F 04.08)

Kilt with Kilt Pin

Object is a kilt with three leather straps and buckles with a silver coloured sword shaped kilt pin reading "Je Suis Prest". The tartan design is Thomson Red, MacTavish with faded red, green, and blue colours.

Ethiopian Orthodox Icon

Object is a painted Ethiopian icon on wood of a seated unidentified saint or scribe pointing their left hand to script written in Ge’ez, the traditional liturgical language of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The right hand holds a writing instrument and covers the mouth of the saint or scribe. The individual wears a red robe with white and black stripes and the sleeves are green with red stripes. There is a gold shoulder band with white and black stripes. The top right corner has script written in Ge’ez. The icon is featured a wood base with a carved border.

Robert N. Thompson fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence, speeches, articles, notes, minutes, photographs, scrapbooks and other records relating to Thompson's personal life, his involvement with various organizations, his military career and work in Ethiopia, his political career as a Member of Parliament (MP) and national leader of the Social Credit Party of Canada, and his work as an educator.

Note that in addition to these records, the RNT Fonds is also comprised of the following:

  • Audio and video cassettes, filed in the database with Coll. 02, the A/V collection; also physically filed with other A/V materials
  • Scrapbooks containing news clippings and personal memorabilia sorted in chronological order (from 1960 to 1996)
  • Scrapbooks containing political cartoons clipped from newspapers, sorted in chronological order (1963-1996)
  • Unprocessed reel to reel (approximately 41) and audio tapes (approximately 55) mostly pertaining to Thompson’s political career
    • Thompson also donated published Social Credit materials, including 187 booklets/pamphlets, as well as a selection of books (84) from his personal library on the following broad topics: early education textbooks, teaching educational texts, air force, Ethiopia, Amharic language, local history, and a family bible that has no annotations.

Object is a black framed watercolour cartoon reading "To a Trail Blazer, Happy Birthday" from Reg and Greta, belonging to Robert N. Thompson, depicting Thompson in a canoe pointing at a star.

Douglas Ruler

Object is a "'Douglas' combined protractor and parallel rule, designed by Commander H.P. Douglas" in a cardboard case with "Robert N. Thompson, Ft/Lieut" in pen on the front of the case and a paper explaining the ruler. The case is closed by a cloth tie. Two objects in the collection.

Dalton Dead Reckoning Computer with Leather Case

Object is a "Dalton Dead Reckoning Computer, Type E-6B, WEEMS System of navigation, Annapolis, MD", copyright by Philip Dalton, for flight calculations. The "computer" is in a brown leather-like case with "Robert N. Thompson, Sqd. Leader, 1943" on the front and "Robert N. Thompson Ft Lieut 1942" on the back.

Decorative Pickaxe with Mineral Card

Object is a hinged wood box with green lining containing a decorative gold and silver coloured pickaxe with mineral samples (copper ore, zinc ore, blister copper, refined zinc) on a card. The card reads "Specimens from Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co., Limited, Flin Flon Manitoba". The information card on the lid reads "Presented to Robert Thompson by the Flin Flon Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of your visit to Flin Flon and the 1970 Manitoba Chambers of Commerce Centennial Convention".

Military Arm Band

Object is a khaki green arm band with a brown Chevron stripe for the 15th A.L.H (A.L.H possibly stands for Alberta Light Horse and is written in pen under the stripe). Made of fabric (possibly cotton) with ties, from the Robert N. Thompson collection.
