An unidentified man leads the singing of Christmas Carols. Those present are welcomed. Garth Johnson, from the Board, brings greetings and prays. Faculty members are introduced individually. Thanks are expressed. Library volunteers are introduced. Special guests are introduced. The group is led in prayer. There is further singing of Christmas Carols, and music, which is cut off in the middle of a song.

Karen Longman (CCCU) - Staley Lectures Series - Wednesday, November 1

Audio 72a consists of the following recording:
Title: Dr. Karen Longman, Staley Lecture – “Take Heart”
Dr. Longman served from ca. 1980 to ca. 2000 as Vice President for Professional Development and Research at the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities In 1995 she presented the Staley Lecture at TWU. She opens with a prayer, and mentions the fact that the chapel service has been extended. She discusses Stephen Covey's book, the “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,” and the importance of developing one’s potential for God and His Kingdom. She reads from Galatians, 1Corintians 13, 2 Corinthians 3. She illustrates her points through personal stories. She argues that faith should be illustrated through love. In closing, she leads the group in prayer. At [22:48] a presentation already underway cuts in, and an unidentified person can be heard speaking about the concepts of “that’s the way it is” vs. “that’s the way God made it.” The speaker explores the concept of a Christian worldview. This recording cuts off suddenly.

Stan Fryer, Trinity Western University staff, is interviewed on his involvement with Burden Bearers of Canada, a nonprofit group that provides counseling services. He discusses the impact of his faith on his counseling work. He shares details of the counseling process at Burden Bearers. He shares anecdotes about his experiences and the impact his volunteer work has had on his personal growth. At [27:02] the interview ends and choir music - possibly the original content of the cassette - plays. The choir is accompanied by a piano. The music continues until the end of the recording.

[According to a telephone conversation with Stan Fryer during the summer of 2004, he served at Trinity from 1975 to 1985, first as Business Manager to 1977, then in Development from 1978 to 1985. School calendar listings identify him as Associate Director of Public Affairs from 1978 to 1985.]
