Title: Iain T. Benson / Bruce Clemenger – “Christian Perspective on Religious Freedom and Definition”
Benson [Senior Associate Counsel, Miller Thomson LLP, and former Executive Director, Centre for Cultural Renewal in Ottawa, Ontario] begins by raising the question: "what is the language of engagement? Can theological language itself do the task of connection? I'm going to suggest that it can't, and that it's not intended to do so." He speaks on the case of Brillinger v. Brockie, wherein a homosexual man (Brillinger) was denied printing services by Brockie, the owner of the printing company, based on his strict religious beliefs. Benson also discusses the difficulty of the terms pluralism and secularism and the issues that arise when groups redefine terms. Near the end of the recording Clemenger begins his response. He identifies himself as Director of the EFC's Centre for Faith and Public Life. He is cut off in the middle of a sentence.

Peter Ropke discusses the movement from a liberty-based system to a rights-based system of government at length, in relation to religious freedom. He cites several examples and argues that a rights-based system allows for fewer freedoms then a liberty-based system.
