Ethiopian Kitabe Leather Amulet

Object is one rectangular leather amulet case with wooden block inside. The leather has been imprinted with a cross hatch design measuring 4.5 cm. The case has leather stitching where the amulet would be fastened to a chain for wearing around the neck. The kitabe was worn by an individual and contained religious texts, in particular texts written in Ge'ez, a liturgical language of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.

Object is one cylinder shaped red leather amulet case with wooden block inside that is half covered in black leather. The leather has been imprinted with three feathers each feather measuring 1.5 cm in length. The case has leather stitching where the amulet would be fastened to a chain for wearing around the neck. The kitabe was worn by an individual and contained religious texts, in particular texts written in Ge'ez, a liturgical language of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
