Scope and content

Audio 182a consists of the following recording:
Title: Bob Thompson and other Speakers – “Graduation Address April 21, 1985”
The recording opens with the group being led in prayer [possibly by Edward Dyck, Board member]. The prayer is cut off suddenly. President Neil Snider welcomes those present and acknowledges honoured guests. Greetings are expressed by Ross Belsher, parent of graduate and Member of Parliament for Fraser Valley East. Dr. Robert Thompson, TWU Professor Emeritus of Political Science, is invited to speak. Thompson speaks on his vision for TWU and the development of the school. He discusses the importance of community standards and striving for excellence. He also discusses what it means to live as a Christian. He encourages the graduates to determine God’s will for their lives.
Audio 182b consists of the following recording:
Title: Many Speakers – “Graduation Address April 21, 1985”
This is a continuation of the Graduation service on Aud. 182a. Dr. Ken Davis (Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs) discusses the commitment of the students and faculty to Trinity Western University. He thanks the faculty for their work. Deborah Wills is introduced as valedictorian; she thanks faculty, parents, Trinity Western University as a whole, and the students for their support. She then speaks on personal development and externalizing one’s Christianity in a secular world. At [8:05] a list of graduates who have attained high honours is read [likely by Orville Lyttle, Registrar and/or Allan Kotanen, Student Life]. A number of awards are given out: Ted Borley is given the Scholar Athlete award; Ginnie (Virginia) Westman and Loyal Makaroff are presented with citizenship awards. Dr. Ken Davis reads a list of graduates. [There is a tape glitch and several of the lists of names are missing.] A man [possibly Campus Pastor David Judge] reads from 1 Corinthians 15:58. The group is led in prayer. There is one last announcement and prayer [possibly by Rev. Keith Lundberg, parent and Board member].
