Scope and content

Audio 63a consists of the following recording:
Title: Dr. Snider – “Community Standards”
Dr. Snider discusses existentialism's positives, such as emphasis on individuality, and negatives, including the emphasis on hopelessness. He compares and contrasts Trinity Western University with public institutions in terms of curriculum and purpose. He discusses the benefits of end-result planning and the use of community standards to build a Christ-like community. He encourages students to be “people helpers,” to reach out to the community and support each other. He believes in promoting personal growth. Finally he encourages the students to honour their communal responsibility to Trinity Western University; he encourages them to hold each other accountable for their behaviour.
Audio 63b consists of the following recording:
Title: Dr. Snider – “Community Standards” / Dr. Brian Johnson – “On Campus Counseling Services” / Unknown speaker – “The Development of the Whole Person.”
This is a continuation of the recording on Aud. 63a. Dr. Snider discusses the Community Standards and their importance in maintaining the community at Trinity Western. The standards are in accordance with a biblical view of life, and students attend Trinity Western University in full knowledge of the standards. He discusses alcohol and pre-marital sex. At [10:34] another section begins. Dr. Brian Johnson, the school's psychologist, is invited to speak - possibly by Arvid Olson - about his role. He discusses the counseling services available on campus. An unidentified speaker who refers to himself as the Student Dean - possibly Arvid Olson - discusses the student handbook in terms of student development. He references the development of the whole person and relationship with Christ. Some of the major issues within the student handbook, such as stereo noise and keys, are reviewed.
